A Little Something I Noticed
A few years ago, I was sitting on the steps at a train station in London eating a sandwich. I was sitting there because moments prior I had had an anxiety attack while venturing down what felt like 8 flights of escalators into the train station basement to catch a train to my next destination.
Across the waiting area stood a young man with flowers tucked into his backpack. My curiosity was instantly piqued.
He'd clearly arrived early. And was waiting for someone.
For fifteen minutes he barely moved. Just waited. Nervous. Hopeful. Watching the escalator.
Eventually a young woman appeared at the top.
He started waving. She started running.
They hugged. They kissed. He handed her the flowers.
I finished my sandwich. The anxiety I felt earlier was completely gone.
Those two strangers had no idea how much they'd improved my day.
